Mux Mool Skulltaste

One of my favorite things is stumbling across a new album by someone that you've never heard of before, and having it immediately knock your socks off. I saw the cover for this album and based on that alone I had to give it a listen. Most of the time that's a recipe for disaster but not in this case...

Joshua Tree Test Run

We were out by Palm Springs this weekend and decided to go out to Joshua Tree to do a quicky camping trip. This trip's purpose was to test out our new tent, see what camping supplies we still need to get, and also scout the campsites so we can plan a nice group trip there in the next few weeks/ months. Oh yeah we also wanted to relax out in some beautiful nature. Anyways, we had a blast and it was perfect weather. The Pea came with us too, but I don't think he likes camping too much, based on all of the whining he did...

Inspiration Point

I did the Inspiration Point hike yesterday as one of my many warm ups for the Half Dome hike I'm doing this summer. The hike to the lookout was a 10 mile round tripper, and took about 5 hours total, 2 of which were spent relaxing at the summit and eating lunch. I'd write more about how fun this hike was, but I'm feeling extra tired and lazy right now...

When The Game Was Ours

I just finished reading this book about the epic basketball rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. It's a fast and entertaining must read for any fan of the NBA, and especially for fans of the Lakers (YAAAAAYYYYYY!) and Celtics (BOOOO!). Although it was written by a reporter from Boston it doesn't favor one star over the other so that was kind of cool.

WVU Wins The Big East Tourney!

At long last the Mountaineer's won the Big East Tournament. Bob Huggins continues be a great coach, and De'Sean Butler has been playing out of his mind. Beware of WVU in the NCAA Tournament!

R.I.P. Corey Haim

Corey Haim, one of my favorite childhood actors, died today of an apparent overdose. It wasn't too surprising really. But, it's still pretty sad when someone is on top of the world at such a young age and then throws it all away over some drugs.

The World's Most Valuable Baseball Card

I was at a baseball card shop in the late 1980's when I stumbled across this 1906 gem. I managed to buy it for a measley $5 bucks and now its worth over 3 Trillion Dollars. It was pretty much the greatest card purchase in the history of all baseball card collectors, and the type of thing that everyone dreams about.

Neverwhere

So far he's 2 for 2... Neverwhere was the second book in a row that I've read by Neil Gaiman, and simply put, it was awesome. So awesome in fact that I managed to read all 350+ pages of it in just a couple of days even though I have a ton of other crap I should be doing with my free time. I'm not sure how he manages to come up with this stuff, but Neil Gaiman's writing is so chocked full of unique characters, creepy legends, mysterious places, and humorous little details, that he makes me feel the way I did as a kid when I read anything by Roald Dahl (one of my all time favorites). I don't know what else to say besides that there just seems to be some magical element that he is able to capture and put down on paper unlike any other author I've read before.

A Few Imrovements

Slowly but surely the living room remodel is moving along. We got the cottage cheese scraped off of the ceiling about 2 months ago, painted, and installed crown moulding. This weekend we finally bought some new lights and the ceiling fan just got installed this morning. We still need to touch up the paint, get new shutters, buy furniture and install new carpet so the work is far from over.

Got Em!

Today at 7AM Pacific time the permits to hike Yosemite's Half Dome during May and June went on sale. There were only 300 permits available per date (you don't need a permit Monday-Thursday) so I knew there was going to be a mad rush to secure tickets. I didn't want to get screwed out of this hike so last night I set my alarm for 6:40AM, woke up early, logged in to the government website that handles the permits, got everything ready to go and then stared at the time for the next 20 minutes waiting for the clock to strike 7. Luckily, I was able to snag 4 passes (the max allowed) so it's a done deal, but when I refreshed the page at 7:02 all 300 were gone! Like the old saying goes... If you snooze, you loose!
